ActionAid is an international anti-poverty agency formed in 1972. ActionAid is a partnership between people in poor and rich countries working together to end poverty and injustice. Today, ActionAid is a global movement of people working together to further human rights for all and defeat poverty. The agency isworking with over 13 million of the world's poorest and excluded people in over 40 countries worldwide to secure their rights to a life free of poverty and injustice, and with the support of half a million donors and supporters. ActionAid puts women and women's rights at the centre of all its work because the agency believes that gender is critical to understanding the causes of poverty and injustice. ActionAid works with women across the world to identify the changes they want to see and to empower them to claim their rights. ActionAid also defends the rights of women and girls to live free from gender-based violence; to secure a fairer division of care work and to control their own sexuality.The association believes that women are powerful forces for change and that the best way to end poverty is to strengthen women in their own struggles, helping them to unleash their own potential to change the world.
